Abstract
In order to increase the service life of concrete constructions, many researches have been done which one of them is the use of polymers in concrete composition. The new Latex-Modified Concrete (LMC) has opened new paths of the interdisciplinary science and increase the application of concrete in different fields specially, in transportation industries. Two main methods to amplify the reinforced concrete against corrosion by LMC are “Coatings to concrete” and “Coatings to reinforcement”. In these systems thereto-plastic acrylic resin is formulated as basic raw material. It is claimed that LMC has ability to bond strongly with old concrete, and resistance to ingress of water and aggressive solutions. These characteristics have made the LMC a popular material for rehabilitation of deteriorated floors, roofs, roads, bridges decks, pier foundation, airports, flyovers, industrial structures, ports and etc.
This paper shows the results of research on the effect of three different kinds of Water based Acrylic resins including: basic, hydroxyl, carboxyl on physical, penetrating and mechanical properties of concrete such as chloride migration by RCMT, the depth of carbonation and Early ,final and Capillary Water Absorption (W/C= 0.445). Based on experimentally obtained results, carboxyl resin was not proper to produce LMC, but basic has shown better properties rather than hydroxyl, hence basic resin is a proper choice for LMCs.
