Abstract

High-strength wastewater generated by industrial polyester production processes is often contaminated by hazards and has a high amount of chemical oxidation demand (COD) about 100000-250000 mgO2/L. Different wastewater treatment methods including distillation (once or twice), physical filtration, activated carbon adsorption, oxidation (mixture of TiO2 and UV irradiation, hydrogen peroxide, ozone therapy for 45 min, KMNO4), and electrical current oxidation were used to treat the high-strength polyester wastewater. The results expressed that the combination of once distillation and passing the wastewater through activated carbon had the highest efficiency and lowest cost.
