چکیده مقاله

Abstract

The current study is a report on the application of prepared chitosan-cyanuric chloride hybrid (Ch-Cy) onto the wool fabric. The Ch-Cy component was synthesized in tetrahydrofuran at 0°C for 24 h. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra were used to prove the interaction between chitosan and cyanuric chloride. The effects of Ch-Cy concentration, temperature, and pH were evaluated on the grafting process. The optimum values for operating variables were achieved with CCh-Cy = 15% (owf), T = 70°C, and pH 4–5. The physical properties of treated wool fabric were premeditated by FTIR, scanning electron microscope and differential scanning calorimetry analysis. The results showed that the Ch-Cy was grafted to the wool structure through the formation of strong covalent bonds. The antibacterial activity of dyed treated wool fabric against Escherichia coli was enhanced and the dyeing capability of treated fabrics in comparison to untreated fabrics was increased. The results from this study obviously indicate that the Ch-Cy hybrid is a high potential antimicrobial and a new environmentally friendly agent for textile fibers.
